Abstract

"These Social Mapping Reports compiled by NACS with the support of AusAID through the National HIV/AIDS Support Project, provide the stakeholders involved in responding to the epidemic in PNG with a wealth of data to assist them to better focus prevention and care strategies. The aim of the social mapping project was to create a “map” of each province in the nation illustrating the way that living conditions and peoples’ knowledge and understanding of HIV/AIDS influence the development of the disease. The social mapping provides information regarding those factors which constrain people from adopting protective behaviour, and documents peoples’ attitudes towards affected and infected people. It records attitudes towards risk factors and looks at the impact of the response to date."
