Description

Quarterly report of HIV/AIDS surveillance and statistics in Papua New Guinea.

Abstract

" In Papua New Guinea, surveillance of HIV/AIDS consists of case reports of HIV/AIDS infection sent to the National AIDS Council Secretariat (NACS). Information collected on cases relies upon the National Reference Laboratory at Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL) to notify confirmed cases of HIV infection to the Statistical Officer NACS. CPHL sends medical notification forms with the confirmed results to the person who requested the test, who in turn is expected to return the completed form to the Statistical Officer, NACS. However, currently medical notification of HIV/AIDS cases are not being forwarded to the statistical officer therefore the analysis of data comprises of information (ie age, sex and province of detection) obtained from laboratory notification only."
