Faith in Action: Examining the Role of Faith-Based Organizations in Addressing HIV/AIDS
Global Health Council, 2005, 80 pp

Commissioned by Catholic Medical Mission Board. Reproduced with kind permission of the Global Health Council.

"With nearly 40 million people now living with HIV/AIDS, the global community is urgently seeking to identify all relevant partners who can expand efforts to contain and prevent the disease. The World Health Organization estimates that one in five organizations engaged in HIV/AIDS programming is faith-based, but with little documentation and evaluation of their work available, accurate assessments of their contributions have been scarce. Faith in Action, a new study conducted by Global Health Council and commissioned by the Catholic Medical Mission Board (CMMB), offers the first systematic analysis of opinions surrounding the involvement of faith-based organizations (FBOs) in addressing the AIDS pandemic in some of the world's hardest-hit nations. Faith in Action examines perceptions of FBO contributions and actions in Haiti, India, Kenya, South Africa, Thailand and Uganda through the eyes of both secular and faith-based HIV/AIDS experts."
