ANCARD was established in 1996 as the Federal Government's peak advisory body on HIV/AIDS and related diseases. ANCARD replaced the Australian National Council on AIDS, and was in turn replaced by the Australian National Council on AIDS, Hepatitis C and Related Diseases (ANCAHRD) in 1999.
