A generic term for agents that can block, kill, or immobilize pathogens (disease causing organisms). Products are currently under development that could be used vaginally or rectally to block infection with HIV and other STIs. This topic encompasses the use of such products as related to policy formation, particularly with reference to the significance of microbicides for women.
