- Abstract
"Across India today, HIV/AIDS is seen to be moving from high risk groups to the more vulnerable segments among the general population. Political leadership and commitment has shifted significantly in favor of providing access to anti-retroviral treatment (ART) for people living with HIV/AIDS. Treatment is now perceived as a critical component of a comprehensive program to combat HIV/AIDS, along with prevention and the improvement of health care infrastructure for the delivery and monitoring of care and support. This integration has recently become, more feasible. Earlier, high costs, demanding treatment regimens, and the absence of basic health infrastructure were repeatedly cited as potentially insurmountable barriers."
