Abstract

"The Netherlands Government has supported a series of activities to convene researchers, policy makers and practioners to assess and synthesize what is known, develop the evidence base, examine policies and policy options. The AIDS, Security and Conflict Initiative (ASCI) aims to move the field from concern and conjecture into well-grounded policies and programs that can grapple with the major issues in the field, and thereby help to resolve them. In the manner of a decentralized learning initiative, ASCI will review, synthesize and sponsor research and policy engagement. This note summarizes a New York briefing on ASCI held by the Netherlands Government on 3 June 2005 at the margin of the United Nations' General Assembly Special Session on HIV/AIDS."
